C-Diary Diabetes Diary for Symbian Smartphones Print

C-Diary Logo
C-Diary is a diabetes diary for cellular phones.
The "C" in C-Ciary is the abbreviation for "Cellular". The English pronounciation of C-Diary is identical to that one of SiDiary, an electronic diabetes diary for Windows, Windows Mobile and Java by SINOVO Ltd. & Co. KG. The initial idea was to write an input module for SiDiary, which runs on cellphones using the Symbian operating system, because this is a gap in the SiDiary product family.
My application quickly evolved into a seperate product, independent from SiDiary. Hence the different but still similar name. The intensive contact to the SINOVO team assures that C-Diary will always be compatible to SiDiary, so that you can tansfer all your diabetes data tracked with C-Diary on your cellphone to SiDiary on the PC, and gather, manage and evaluate the data there. Direct data transfer from C-Diary to SiDiary Online is also planned.

C-Diary comes with a few valuable statistical analysis features. But for complex analysis and report generation, I recommend to use a PC-based or server-based solution such as SiDiary.

Features

alt

  • High efficency:
    • Quick and easy data entry and editing
    • Quick and easy database navigation
  • Day trend as a convenient diagram
  • Day statistics (more statistics planned). Day pie chart visualizes day's quality at a glance.
  • Highly configurable:
    • Multilanguage program interface (English, German, French)
    • Units: mg/dl, mmol/l. BE, KE, g etc.
    • Blood glucose target range and limits
  • Entry of following data supported per record: Blood glucose, Insulin 1, Insulin 2, Carbohydrates, Hypoglycemia symptoms, Injection-food delay, Comment, Weight, and 36 predefined events as well as 26 user-definable events
  • C-Diary integrates seamlessly into the SiDiary product group and allows data transfer conveniently using following methods:
    • Bluetooth or Infrared connection (file transfer for import into SiDiary PC version)
    • via Email (file transfer for import into SiDiary PC version)
    • SiDiary AirSync (send data directly from the phone to SiDiary Online)
  • Operable via keyboard and/or touchscreen
  • Native Symbian program, C-Diary is not a Java application. Hence C-Diary has great snappy performance and can handle databases with several thousand records without a problem.

On which cell phones can C-Diary be used?

C-Diary runs on the Symbian platforms UIQ2, UIQ3, Series60 (S60) 2nd, 3rd and 5th edition.
Many current phones made by Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and other manufacturers are supported.

If you are unsure, whether your cell phone uses one of these platforms, have a look at the cell phone lists provided by Wikipedia:

The following screenshots are taken on the Symbian UIQ3 phone "M600i" by Sony Ericsson. On other platforms, C-Diary may look slightly differently.

C-Diary project status

Current status summary: Beta 6 (until 2010-03-31), SiDiary AirSync finally possible! Very stable, still free of charge. Release 1.00 planned for March 2010

The first version of C-Diary is currently in Beta state. That means, C-Diary is not officially available yet, but it can already be tested, and the development is done in parallel.
Everyone who owns a relatively modern Symbian-based cell phone (see phone lists above) can participate in the beta test.

The current beta version is already very stable and enables you to keep track of your diabetes data effectively. That means, the current beta version is already well suitable as a reliable mobile way to keep your diabetes diary. Also the SiDiary export feature works, so you can at any time migrate all data collected with C-Diary to SiDiary.

I expect to be able to release the first official version of C-Diary in March 2010. The price will be, depending on demand and available features, between 20 and 40 Euros.

Please note that the free-of-charge beta versions stop working at a specific date, mostly within about 1-2 months after the version has been released. There will be a new downloadable program version available in time, i.e. a few days before the current one expires, so as soon as you see a warning that your current beta version expires, please download and install the new one in order to be able to continue your diabetes diary without a gap.

This applies only to the free beta versions. A release version you paid for will of course never expire.
